Greetings and salutations, my fine fellow Netflix enthusiasts.  For this post, I am gonna focus on the wonderful TV genre of…

HORROR!!!

There’s just something about getting the absolute soul scared out of them by a good TV show that makes my heart happy.  Typically, everyone’s go-to horror show to watch in recent years is American Horror Story, which makes sense because of its mainstream popularity (and because it literally has the word “Horror” in the title).  But I want to use this post to highlight two horror shows that don’t get as much recognition as they should, and I think they rival and even pass AHS in terms of pure awesomeness.  So strap in, and let’s begin with the fantastic show known as…

Bates Motel

Bates Motel is not an outright terrifying show, I will admit.  However, when it comes to a creepy family situation and a wonderful origin story of one of the most iconic horror film characters ever created, this show takes the cake for sure.

The show is a prequel to the horror classic Psycho, as it follows Norma Bates and her son Norman and their misfortunes after buying the dilapidated Bates Motel.  Beware though, because there seems to be something really wrong with Norman…

But I can’t tell you what it is, can I?

This show has fantastic performances across the board from the cast, particularly Vera Farmiga as Norma, who will go to extreme lengths to keep her son firmly under her control.  A little bit too much under control, as you will come to find out throughout all five seasons.  I highly recommend this show and all of the horror/drama that comes along with it.

Welcome to Bates Motel.

Penny Dreadful

We all grew up hearing about classic horror characters like Dracula and Frankenstein.  But what if they were all found in Victorian England? And the immortal Dorian Grey was added into the mix? And witches came into play that made creepy voodoo dolls? And they all came together to fight for the soul of one woman as the literal Devil tries to possess her?

Well, you’ve found the right show.

Penny Dreadful is one of the darkest TV shows that I have ever seen, with a creepy tone established from the very first scene and continues until the end of the third season of its run.  All of the characters are impeccably written and performed, and you will be engulfed in the world as everyone fights for the main character’s soul.  It’s creepy, it’s awesome, and it’s something you should check out immediately.

Go on, you know you want to.

That’s all for the Horror genre, my friends.  This are two wonderfully dark and twisted shows that you should give a try if you’re feeling spooky.  Tune in next time as I write about the genre of…

Oh, you wish I would tell you.
